New appointment - Mr Alasdair Santini
Alasdair Santini has been appointed as an ODEP panel member. ODEP is the Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel which implements NICE guidance on hip, knee and shoulder implants. Mr Santini has joined the panel that oversees knee implants.
Manufacturers use ODEP to benchmark their prostheses, against agreed standards and at regular time points. It is a rolling process and manufacturers will submit their up to date data from the pre-entry level (before the first official benchmark) through 3, 5, 7, 10, and 13 years. These time points will be extended as data from registries and other sources becomes available. The ODEP rating is now a commonly used benchmark used not only in the UK, but globally.
