The COVIDSurg collaborative group
The COVIDSurg collaborative group is an International collection of over 1500 surgeons through out the world who have analysed the surgical data produced through the COVID pandemic over the last year. A series of papers have been published with Mr Santini being the co-author on two of them:
SARS-CoV-2 vaccination modelling for safe surgery to save lives: data from an International prospective cohort study. Brit J Surg 2021: 1-8
This first paper showed that surgical patients needing operations should be prioritised for vaccination to allow them to safely have the treatment they need.
Timing of surgery following SARS-CoV-2 Infection: an international prospective cohort study. Anaesthesia 2021
This paper showed that patients who have had COVID should if at all possible wait 7 weeks after their infection before undergoing surgery to minimise the post-operative risks.
